Major Police Presence Reported in Highwood as Authorities Respond to Active Shooter Situation

A large police response was reported in Highwood after multiple law enforcement agencies responded to an active shooter situation in the area of the 300 block of Walker Avenue.

Authorities from several surrounding departments joined the response, including police units from Highland Park, Lake Forest, Riverwoods, and Winnetka. Police canines were also reported to be at the scene as officers worked to secure the area and investigate the incident.

According to officials, law enforcement agencies were responding to an active shooter situation. Due to the significant police presence, the Highland Park Police Department is taking the lead in investigating the incident.

Residents near the affected area were urged to shelter in place and avoid the area while authorities continue their investigation. Police advised people in the vicinity not to open doors or windows to unexpected visitors and encouraged anyone with concerns to contact 911.

One injured individual was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in critical condition.
