Woman Stabbed During Mass at Holy Cross Church in Tramore; Suspect Arrested
A woman in her 50s was injured after a stabbing during a Mass at Holy Cross Church in Tramore, County Waterford, on Sunday morning, prompting a major emergency response and a Garda investigation.
Emergency services were called to the church shortly before 10 a.m. after reports of an assault inside the place of worship. Members of An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service arrived within minutes and assisted at the scene. 
According to Gardaí, the woman sustained stab wounds during the incident and was transported to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) for treatment. While her injuries are described as serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening.
Witnesses said the attack occurred while Mass was being celebrated, leaving parishioners and clergy in shock. The woman is understood to have been attacked near the altar after a man entered the church and confronted her. Investigators have not confirmed whether the suspect and victim were known to one another. 
A man was arrested at the scene and remains in Garda custody as officers continue their investigation.
In a statement following the incident, local officials expressed sympathy for the victim and those who witnessed the attack.
“My thoughts are with her and her family. My thoughts are also with the parishioners and clergy who witnessed this. A place of worship should be a place of safety.”
The statement also thanked An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service for their rapid response to the emergency.
